Healing Crystals and Stones: 4 Simple Mistakes Beginners Make

If you are brand new to using healing crystals and wondering if you are on the right track, you’ll want to know these simple mistakes beginners make. You might be making some of these mistakes without realizing you are reducing the effectiveness of your crystals.

The good news is that basic care is simple once you know how.

Healing crystals need regular cleansing.

Not Cleansing and Charging Your Healing Crystals

Crystals are powerful and can absorb the energy around them, but if you don’t cleanse and recharge them, this can also be a problem. When you first acquire a new crystal, you should cleanse it to get rid of other people’s energies. You should also cleanse and recharge when you use it for your own practice.

When should they be charged? In general, every full moon is a good reminder, depending on how often you use them. Furthermore, if your own energy or manifestations have changed, or if someone else has touched them, you should charge them.

Using the Same Crystal for Everything

I get it – you’ve found a crystal that you absolutely love and can feel the energy radiating from it. But, you will end up needing to cleanse and recharge the crystal more frequently if you use it for all your practices.

It is common for people to overuse crystals without setting proper intentions. Programming crystals for specific purposes is a better option. For example, in tarot readings, using one crystal can help open your third eye, and in manifestation rituals, use a different crystal placed in front of you or on a grid. If you need protection from certain energies, you can wear a healing crystal necklace or keep a crystal in your pocket.

 Hiding Your Crystals Away

It is a good idea to display some of your crystals around your home after you have charged them appropriately with your intentions. It is not necessary to have all of them out, as you want to be careful not to damage them, but displaying healing crystals that have a specific purpose can help them be more effective.

You should keep crystals you aren’t using in a safe place to prevent them from collecting dust and losing their energy. However, you might want to keep one on your nightstand, in your kitchen, or maybe in your purse or at work as well.

Leaving Crystals Out In Direct Sunlight

While it is okay to leave crystals out for a little while in the sunlight, they should not get constant direct sunlight. Exposure to the UV rays over an extended period of time can damage your crystals, causing the colors to fade, as is the case with amethyst. The sun might even deplete them of their energy. If you want to keep them out after a full moon charge, only do so for one day, then bring them inside.

That being said, some crystals like and can be charged, in the sun. This includes black stones like obsidian and onyx as well as green jade and carnelian. To be safe, make sure you know what healing crystals you have and the best way to charge them. When in doubt, Reiki always works.
